Place the sample on the test end of the base smoothly, press down the upper arm to make the probe on the upper arm to head on the sample. The pointer of the dial returns slowly with the sample retuning until the sample reaches to balance and the pointer stops rotating. Now the numerical value the pointer points is the sample softness.
